Undescribed species

Andinoacara sp. “Llanos”

Andinoacara sp. “Llanos” is an informal name recorded in regional fish inventories, not a formal species description. Its relationship to aquarium fish called “Orinoco” remains unresolved.

Profile

Andinoacara sp. “Llanos” is an undescribed form. The name appears in the Casanare biodiversity inventory and regional literature on the fishes of the Llanos.

Name and taxonomic status

The 2011 Casanare inventory lists Andinoacara sp. n. “llanos”. This records an informal name for a potentially undescribed species; it does not constitute a formal species description. The references below document the name but do not resolve its relationship to other Orinoco forms.

Recorded region

The Casanare checklist associates the name with Casanare, Colombia. Los peces de los llanos de Venezuela also lists Andinoacara sp. “llanos” under the Llanos (Orinoquia) in Table 6.1. These records provide regional context, rather than a confirmed collection locality for fish in the aquarium trade.

Identification and related forms

It has not been established whether “Llanos” is distinct from fish traded as Andinoacara sp. “Orinoco”. A locality or trade name alone is not enough to establish a separate species. Collection records and reliably identified photographs are needed before firm identification characters can be added.

Aquarium information

Adult size, water parameters, temperament and breeding observations specifically attributable to the “Llanos” form have not yet been verified for this profile.
